The waterproof performance of polyaspartic needs to be verified through systematic testing, covering basic properties, long-term weather resistance, and simulation of actual working conditions.

 

Basic Waterproof Performance Testing

1.Permeability Resistance Test

Testing Method:

Hydrostatic Pressure Method (GB/T 23446): Place the coating sample in a permeable device, apply water pressure (0.1–2.5 MPa), and record the maximum pressure value at which water begins to permeate.

Permeability Height Method: Place the sample vertically, inject water at the bottom, and measure the height of water penetration.

Polyaspartic Performance:

Due to its 100% solid content and seamless film formation, it typically withstands water pressure >1.5 MPa (equivalent to a depth of 150 meters underwater), far exceeding traditional materials (e.g., SBS membranes, which handle around 0.3 MPa)

2.Water Absorption Rate Test

Testing Method: Immerse the sample in water for 24 hours and calculate the percentage of weight gain.

Polyaspartic Performance: Water absorption rate <1% (traditional polyurethanes are around 3-5%), due to its dense cross-linked network that blocks moisture penetration.

Mechanical Properties and Durability Testing

1.Elastic Recovery and Crack Resistance

Testing Items:

Tensile Strength & Elongation at Break (GB/T 528): Stretch the sample until it breaks, recording the strength (MPa) and elongation rate (%).

Crack Bridging Ability: Apply the coating to a pre-cracked substrate (crack width 0–3mm) and observe whether water permeates.

Polyaspartic Performance:

Tensile strength >15 MPa, elongation at break >300% (up to 450%).

Can bridge dynamic cracks of up to 3mm (the coating does not rupture during substrate expansion and contraction).

2.Bond Strength

Standard: GB/T 5210

Method: Bond the coating to concrete/metal substrates and test the pull-off strength.

Key Points: Test bond strength in dry, wet, and after heat aging conditions.

Polyaspartic Performance:

Bond strength to concrete substrates >3.0 MPa (wet >2.5 MPa).

Strong molecular permeability, capable of anchoring micro-pores in the substrate.

Environmental Resistance Testing

1.Weather Resistance (UV/Heat-Oxidation Aging)

Testing Method: QUV Accelerated Aging (ASTM G154): Simulate UV + condensation cycles (1000–4000 hours). Heat Air Aging (GB/T 7141): Place in an oven at 70–150°C for 28 days.

Evaluation Indicators: Color difference (ΔE), chalking grade, strength retention rate (>80% is acceptable).

Polyaspartic Advantage: Aliphatic structure resists UV, with ΔE <2 and strength retention >90% after 4000h QUV testing.

2.Chemical Corrosion Resistance

Testing Method: Immerse in acid (5% H₂SO₄), alkali (5% NaOH), salt (3% NaCl), and oil (diesel) for 30 days.

Evaluation Indicators: Weight change rate (±2%), hardness change, and whether bubbling or peeling occurs.

Polyaspartic Performance: Excellent resistance to acids, alkalis, and salts, with a weight change rate <1%; excellent oil resistance (suitable for oil storage floors).

 

Extreme Condition Simulation Testing

1.Thermal Cycling (-40°C to 120°C)

Method: Freeze the sample at -40°C for 2 hours → equilibrate at room temperature → bake at 120°C for 2 hours, repeated for 20 cycles.

Evaluation: Check for cracking, debonding, or chalking.

Results: Polyaspartic, due to its high elasticity and low glass transition temperature (Tg < -40°C), shows no cracking.

2.Dynamic Water Pressure + Crack Simulation

Equipment: Crack simulation device + water pressure apparatus (e.g., Germany's PROET waterproof testing machine).

Method: Substrate cracks open and close cyclically (0–1.5mm) while applying 0.5 MPa water pressure for 30 days.

Polyaspartic Performance: Due to its elastic deformation ability, it can expand and contract with cracks without leaking water (traditional rigid materials fail easily).

 

Application-Specific Tests

1.Roof Waterproofing

Wind Uplift Test (EN 16002): Simulate strong wind negative pressure (≥5 kPa), the coating does not delaminate.

Nail Puncture Self-healing: Observe the self-sealing effect after a nail punctures the coating (polyaspartic elastically encapsulates the nail and prevents water leakage).

2.Underground Engineering

Root Penetration Resistance (FLL Standard): Test for penetration by plant roots (e.g., bamboo roots) in green roofs, polyaspartic passed certification.

3.Water Pools/Drinking Water

Hygienic Safety: GB 5749 "Standard for Drinking Water" immersion test (heavy metal leaching).

Polyaspartic, after curing, is non-toxic and has no leaching, meeting requirements for drinking water contact materials.

ASTM C1305 (Waterproofing performance for concrete surfaces).

EN 14891 (Waterproofing systems for tile adhesives).

Note: Attention should be paid to "Engineering Application Compatibility" when sending for testing:

①Substrate type (concrete/metal/wood).

②Application thickness (1.5–2.0mm is the standard test thickness).

③Curing conditions (standard curing at 23°C for 7 days).
